The Birthplace of Ping Pong

THE UV ROOM at BOUNCE © DANIEL LEWIS 2014

One of my last assignments before Christmas was a fun shoot at the birthplace of the now world famous game of Ping Pong, or as I’ve always called it, Table Tennis, in London’s Holborn.  ‘Bounce’ opened a few years ago, set up by founder Adam Breeden, as a Ping Pong themed bar & restaurant, packed with tables to play the hugely popular game.

I was commissioned to create some editorial images of Adam, but also to capture some interesting views of the venue.  Of particular interest is the ‘UV Room’, which does exactly what is sounds like – the whole room glows under ultraviolet light.  This presented a unique technical challenge for me as the shot would have to be taken in darkness, while still maintaining the glow.  With a hint of carefully placed (and well-timed) remote flash thrown in to freeze the moving action I think the results look intriguing.

Here’s a selection of my favourites from the shoot…
