Another week, another artist portrait sitting. Botanical painter Diana Everett was my latest victim. I was very much looking forward to photographing her because she and her studio would be a first of its type in the project. For the first time we would be taking to the water.
Diana’s studio, in her home, is in fact moored up on the banks of Hammersmith on the most beautiful barge. Incredibly, moored right next door to her is another barge, also owned by Diana, and serves as her garden. Yes that’s right a garden barge!
This shoot was a sheer joy as it was such a different type of image to any of the others so far in the series. The beautifully rich colours of the polished wood and the amazing setting around the boat, with Hammersmith Bridge lurking in the background, worked very well in this composition and I was very clear in my mind from the off that the wheel would feature prominently in shot. I got my wish.
